I wonder how many will show up

We were visiting friends in Eureka today. During the visit, a nice woman came to my friends' door asking for support for Eureka City Council candidate Ron Kuhnel. She informed our hostess of a Kuhnel fundraiser - on November 10.

Our hostess was somewhat perplexed. She asked, "isn't that after the election?"

The woman's expression changed to one of horror as she checked her notes. "The third she said. It's on the third." My hostess then let her know that she and her husband intend to vote "Neely, LaVallee, Kuhnel, Glass, and Abrams," and the woman thanked her and went on her way probably deciding whether to double back to the homes she'd already hit.

Hey, it can happen to anyone. So now you know, it's on the third. Problem is, I can't find any mention of the fundraiser at Kuhnel's site, so I can't advise as to the location or time. Maybe she had the wrong candidate?

Comments:
Don't you hate it when your blogspot won't work and you keep trying to publish and then this happens? Must be only happening to leftys.

It's quirky tonight. I was going to make another post, but I'll wait until tomorrow.

No. It happens to everyone. It was doing it Saturday morning and it's doing it to me again this morning. Luckily I've been able to save my posts as drafts and then publish them when blogspot stops spazzing out.

We are on satellite (recent upgrade from dial-up) and blogging is quirky, too. Received this in the mail:

Eric's dream team;

Neely, LaVallee, Kuhnel, Glass, and Aabrams * sponsered and directed by Richard Salzman.

9:06, I don't think it's erik's dream team. I think it's Pierson's. I guess someone will have to print up circle-slash "Piersontown" stickers.

Pierson may wish to support people who have similar outlooks, but doesn't give money with strings clearly attached, like ARkley does.

Anyone who thinks Pierson money doesn't come with strings attached is a fool.

no strings??? so its ok to go ahead and vote for the home depot project??? KEWEL.....

10:37:
Perhaps you know Bill Pierson better than I do, having only known him and his wife for about a decade. What strings have been attached? I've never seen any strings being pulled.

When have the incumbents EVER voted against Arkley's wishes?

You know, I've been thinking about this, and I think it may be a mistake to frame it this way. Pierson is a popular local business owner, and you haven't made the case that he's an Arkley-equivalent in terms of perception.

Just a thought.

Bill Pierson has not been villified as much as Arkley that is for sure. Who do you think has more employees and which ones have the best pay and benefits? Who gives more to the community in the form of donations? Pierson is local, but so is Rob. Arkley is a 1974 graduate of Arcata High. He may be forceful in his public approach, but he is a local. One of us, and not part of these out of towners who attack him daily.

But, Pierson doesn't give large amounts of money to Prop 85, and candidates around the country like Conrad Burns and Ken Blackwell around the country. I'm not saying he doesn't have the right to do what he will with his money, but those donations will take their toll in a local community like this.

Uh, good points. Can't argue those facts.

Well, he is in terms of my perception. I percieve that he is trying to buy this election....with Neely, Glass, Abrams, Kuhnel: BIG donations, more money than I spend on groceries in a YEAR.

Maybe he's not vilified like Arkley, but he's trying to influence the election with his greenbacks, just the same.

That's what businesses do when their interests are at stake. Stop the presses!

Pierson isn't suing the county.

Or "moving" to another state to avoid paying his fair share of CA taxes.

And he doesn't send nasty emails to anyone who disagrees with his politics.

And he isn't proposing setting up a business to crush his rival just to get back at him for successfully keeping WalMart out of town (remember it was Nancy and Cherie on the Council who wanted Wal-Mart)

And HE DOESN'T OWN A NEWSPAPER.

Arkley goes above an beyond normal business and political practices to push his agenda. And he's mean, carries a grudge and vindictive (he started the ER b/cuz he wants to put the TS out of business - he TOLD THEM THAT after they didn't endorse Cherie) and he is bringing Home Depot to punish Pierson for the Wal-Mart failure (Arkley told Pierson he would make him pay).

So yes, NO ARKLEYVILLE makes sense because he thinks he owns this town. Pierson trying to own the town? Not so much.
