Mateel Summer Arts Festival next weekend
From the Mateel site:Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 3rd
MCC presents the 31st annual Summer Arts & Music Festival at Benbow Lake State Recreation Area
10am to 11pm Sat./ 10am to 10pm Sun.
2007 Line-Up for Summer Arts & Music Festival (Visit the site for Adobe Flash graphic - I can't post it here - EVK)
Also: More than 150 handmade craft and food booths, all-media fine arts showcase, an outrageous kid zone, roving entertainment, parades, and so much more.
Admission is sliding scale at the gate only.
(All proceeds support keeping the Mateel hall open and our programs alive.)
$12 and up per day. $20 and up for the weekend pass.

The photographs look like wanted posters. If they are supposed to make the festival appealing, they fail miserably.

These photos sure don't capture the flavor of the SAF I know and love. Are we changing the event to draw a different crowd, or are we trying to have two events in one (community party in the daytime, young adult concert at night)? Come to think of it, that's how many of our best non-p parties at MCC are run -- come early for visiting, good food, mellow music, a silent auction and info about the good cause you're supporting, or come late for loud music, or come early and stay late for a broader experience and wider cross section of our community.
Too bad the SAF publicity doesn't capture the flavor of the whole event, morning til night.

Eric sees black in the photos. I see:
- black and white men in the 1st photo
- white, black and maybe hispanic men in the 2nd photo
- a black man in the 3rd photo
- hispanic, black and white men in the 4th photo
What I don't see are any women.

Come on, kids, they're PR stills for bands. Those aren't Garberville sidewalks in the background! If you want to see families and white people, come to Summer Arts for thousands of 'em.

I was specifically referencing the "wanted poster" comment. If it wasn't a reference to the subject matter of the photography, then what was it?
I do share the PR criticism however. Not one photo of past Summer Arts festivals themselves. I don't go for the music really. It's fine as background noise, but I go there for the sunshine, conversations with people, the crafts, the food, the opportunity to put my feet in the water, and the kids' stuff. About the only show I watch from beginning to end is the Feet First kids dancing.

Some people will find fault in anything..... so the photographs aren't the best....hang the bastards.
For my money the summer arts fair is the best family event of the year. Fun, sun, people watching, food, shopping, music into the night. Reasonably priced, easy in and out and no overly important staff with 15 laminates stapled to their chest. I'm there!

the Mateels web guy needs to put down the bong! To say he has failed miserably is an understatement. Three days from the events and still no complete list of artist, no web links to artist. The schedule on the main page is a joke. if you want to promote artist in an event you don't do it in flash! Search engines don't see it. I have put up my own list of what I have found so far at www.humcity.com Also no posters? I had to scan an ad from the local rag! Why is this not on the net. I don't mean to kick the Mateel while their down but if this web guy is getting paid, he is paid to much. This was not the year to fall down on promoting this event CJ
I am so glad that someone other than me noticed this about the MCC site. Not only does it look like a porn site template, the way it actually works is insane for acommunity like this one. Who is this site serving? Flash is not for dialup. We can't blame the webmaster for the terrible content though. That is the ED's fault.

Listen Omar, as a person who really enjoys his porn, I have to say that the MCC website is nothing like a porn website, after all pornsites make money and make us want to get screwed, the MCC site doesn't make money it just lets us know how screwed we are.

at 12 bucks a head, you better have a small family if you plan on purchasing any of the items they have for sale. after all you include food and a drink and you are shelling out 25 bucks each and then the teenagers come a running because they found some tottally cool dodad they cannot live without until tomorrow am when it is tossed into the closet for eternity. I guess now I have to stay untill the bitter end because the band is sooo cool we have to hear the last song. just in time to find out that the last shuttle to town is leaving and we are still looking for young billy who found out that his new friends will buy him beer in exchange for the weed he stole from my stash can. oh I will be there, at the beer booth sucking down high priced ales hoping the jack booted park rangers don't bust my ass when I sneak down by the river to toke up.
