Mateel/PP/Dimmick settlement watch and miscellaneous topics thread - lots of alternative energy good news

Post questions and comments here. I'll monitor it. I just don't want Reuben's thread polluted.

This seems to be the thread to bring up anything about anything.

Left winger turned neocon and practicing Muslim writer Stephen Schwartz' review of the NCJ article of several weeks ago entitled Seeing Red, about communists in Humboldt County:
I thought this was about the most pathetic thing I had ever read. It
was reprinted in Anderson's paper.
Schwartz often contributes to the AVA. He's kind of grumpy.

Addendum: Some more stories.

Yeah, I mean, the minute I hear any news to report, I'll report it.

thorn says,

off topic for this thread, but here's some news that so far as i can tell hasn't been covered anywhere (other than on a comment thread on heraldo's blog).

from a comment on the humboldt herald:

longwind Says: June 29, 2008 at 10:02 am "...btw at the Code Enforcment hearing on Friday, after reporters for the two papers had shown up late and left early, deputy county counsel Richard Hendry admitted that rogue inspector-cop John Desadier had pulled the Wood Ranch warrant without going through his, or any other, review. At all. Hendry said this wasn’t normal procedure, in other words that recent hire Desadier was running his own policy shop. He had selected his own victim, rounded up his own sheriff accomplices, and gallivanted out on multiple associated raids without any knowledge of higher-ups. If we had a functioning press, this would be news. ..."

thorn says,

i read in the times-standard today that the task force is asking the board of supes to extend their review period, and also to extend the moratorium on non-consensual inspections. at least that’s something.

Did anybody see Kevin Marsh being booted out of KMUD a halk hour ago? We were listening at home. Kevin, a legendary activist and long-time community member was playing music and talking about a scheme the government's got cooked up to crash-land a nuclear powered satellite on Saturn. Next week. Kevin, who who has done these kinds of things before, was hell bent on getting to Florida within the next few days to stop 'em. He was asking for benefactors over the air. He reminded listeners that in 1997 on Thank Jah, the community had pitched in the necessary funds to pay for his travels. I remember him being interviewed live from Florida by Estelle and if I recall correctly, he did accomplish what he set out to do that time, which was stopping the launch of the controversial Cassini Project...Anyway, we were listening and suddenly Kevin's saying that he's received two phone calls from higher-ups at the station asking him to cease and desist...I can't imagine. Is it illegal to ask for money on the air? Whatever else could have happened?

Okay, I guess this is the potpourri thread.

Wait can I come on air and get help with my own conspiracy theories too? Great I'll be down shortly.

There isn't any device that the United States has that I am aware of short of developing the long talked about space elevator that has the stored energy to deliver that kind of payload (weight) that distance.

You have to think these things out rationally.

Is there anyone besides me who think that if code enforcement hadn't been disabled that maybe they could have handled the buddahville thing locally instead of having the Bushie Calvary arrive?

By the way why is this a Mateel/PP/Dimmick settlement watch? From what I have seen PP hasn't paid for much. It has all been Dimmick's attorneys with PP's just watching. I think PP stuck Dimmick with most of the bill.

thorn says,

3:03, the code enforcement staff disabled themsleves with their reckless behavior. the supes just made it official with the moratorium. and thanks to their incredible "we lost all the records in a flood of the conty courthouse basement" nonsense, it looks like the c.e.u. will remain disabled for the forseeable future.

besides, their chaperones from the sherriff's department were too busy waving their guns around at unarmed women and children at places like the yee-haw ranch where there wasn't even a single pot plant, much less some kind of orgainized "pot cartel" as is being alleged in buddahville.

and apparently this fed raid was supposed to be about "criminal conspiracy" and "tax evasion," neither of which was under the purview of the code enforcement unit, even in their massively self-aggrandizing view of their mission.

so, nice try, but no dice.

Is there anyone besides me who think that if code enforcement hadn't been disabled that maybe they could have handled the buddahville thing locally instead of having the Bushie Calvary arrive?

Sure, they would have handled it. And we'd have the bodies to prove it.

It seems there are more than Code issues involved in this set of raids/searches. It appears the feds are concerned in tax evasion issues-amongst other issues. So no- local code enforcement couldn't have dealt with this.

I would like to say that both my husband and I thought that many comments on last Friday's "Thank Jah" were hypocritical and out of line. We've heard many people talk about how evil in-doors are when they themselves have had them- or how people shouldn't do them because there are other ways to make money-when they haven't had to make land payments because some family member let them build a house on their already paid for land. I also didn't like the "we all should go to his house and run him out of town" comments or attitude.

So, everybody should do something that's environmentally destructive AND illegal in order to make their land payments? And how does this make us "different" from the federal government and their corruption, with politicians taking money from Big Ag, Big Pharma, and whoever else can pay them off?

Sorry, you'll garner no sympathy from this corner. There are environmentally friendly ways to grow pot, and indoor isn't one of them. Neither is the planting of huge grows taking out massive amounts of water from an already fragile and damaged ecosystem.

At some point, it just becomes about greed. You want land? Get an education or learn a trade that will earn you a good living. Why does everyone around here have to have 40 acres, anyway? The world's not big enough for that many wealthy, private landowners. Our whole paradigm is just wrong. Wrong for society, wrong for the environment, wrong for our children.

Stephen Schwartz is a bitter old man with an obsession with Bruce Anderson.

Why aren't AEE panels on that list?

This is from your New York Times article.

The brain does not simply gather and stockpile information as a computer’s hard drive does. Facts are stored first in the hippocampus, a structure deep in the brain about the size and shape of a fat man’s curled pinkie finger. But the information does not rest there. Every time we recall it, our brain writes it down again, and during this re-storage, it is also reprocessed. In time, the fact is gradually transferred to the cerebral cortex and is separated from the context in which it was originally learned. For example, you know that the capital of California is Sacramento, but you probably don’t remember how you learned it.

This phenomenon, known as source amnesia, can also lead people to forget whether a statement is true. Even when a lie is presented with a disclaimer, people often later remember it as true.

With time, this misremembering only gets worse. A false statement from a noncredible source that is at first not believed can gain credibility during the months it takes to reprocess memories from short-term hippocampal storage to longer-term cortical storage. As the source is forgotten, the message and its implications gain strength. This could explain why, during the 2004 presidential campaign, it took some weeks for the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign against Senator John Kerry to have an effect on his standing in the polls.

I can understand the source memory suppression. But shouldn't cerebral cortex common sense filter the bad lingering information? Other factors should be incorporated into the discussion such as whatever part of the brain lets you believe what you want to believe. And the part of the brain that is simply lazy when it comes to critical thinking which I guess is most of it.

I think I sent that one around or my partner did if that post is directed to me. I asked myself the same question when I read it. Maybe there is a difference depending on how much you read or different sources you are in contact with.

Yeah, I expected a longer article. Source suppression doesn't explain why you still believe something when the contradiction (Rev. Wright) is in the news on a regular basis. And common sense. And the availability of counter-information to process.

I think it has something to do with the ease of appealing to "lower" impulses and the difficulty with "higher" consciousness.

Carl Sagan claimed that rote thinking and adherence to custom and authority is based in the medula oblongata or "reptilian" portion of the brain which is more easily triggered than the more complex processes in the cerebral cortex. Perhaps a speciesist assumption, but nevertheless.

6:03 - I received three e-mails on the topic. Probably worth its own thread.

I think this "misc" topic thread is a little jumbled for my liking...

And to 5:33pm.. I wasn't saying that I thought it was okay to grow diesel dope to make land payments, I was saying it was a bit hypocritical of people to get on a soap box about it when they have participated in such activities or other illegal activities to get theirs...

In that case, I agree with you.

Gee, the medula whatever goes a long way towards explaining George Bush!

Oblongotcha

The medula argument will also explain why the corn people convince everyone that corn syrup is good for you.

I think this "misc" topic thread is a little jumbled for my liking...

And then you go on to talk about KMUD and pot growing when there are plenty of other threads for that topic. It's not even mentioned in the main post. So you are jumbling it even more!

Maybe that's caused by source amnesia.

And I want to talk about the Anglican Church war and homosexuality. King Henry the 8 who started the church so he could divorce and kill his wives is rolling in his grave!

There is also the rounding down problem. Brains are efficient. Your short term memory can only hold so many data bits so some can get lopped off. If you smoke pot you already know on a conscious level how this works. But it also works on a subconscious level.

That was 1540. Things have changed. Well a little at least.

Why is the settlement details being kept so secret? The community has a right to know what pp/td are up to.

the even bigger news is that nuerogenesis is not only possible its a constant process. It is possible to reroute your nerves as well as regrow your brain.

Why is the settlement details being kept so secret?

Business as usual. Did you really think anything was going to change?

“King Henry the 8 who started the church so he could divorce and kill his wives is rolling in his grave!”

All churches are based on similar insanities, and perpetuated by power struggles. This is just another one.

I'll tell you what. Sometimes I love the people around here!

Found a nude beach in.... Garberville????

GARBERVILLE NUDE BEACH
Rating: C

One of Garberville's least-known attractions is an oasis of solitude: a nice little skinny-dipping hole on the south fork of the Eel River, near the first highway exit into town. The view of the riverbank site from the highway is blocked by a slope, but there are also houses nearby, so use this site with discretion.

Legal status:
May be public property; exact status unknown.

How to find it:
From Mendocino, go north on Highway 1 to Garberville, passing Rockport and Leggett (where 1 merges with Highway 101), or take 101 north all the way to Garberville. The road becomes a two-lane highway bordered by redwoods. Take the first Garberville exit. Turn left at the "To San Francisco" sign, the first major intersection in the city. Instead of following the highway on-ramp, go straight. After the street goes downhill, turn right onto the first paved road. Park near the big pile of gravel (you may see cars pulled over n usually a good sign). An easy path, usually free of poison oak, will take you down to the south fork of the river.

The beach:
Your basic skinny-dipping hole, protected from the road by a hill. Bring thongs or old sneakers to wear in the river.

The crowd:
Possibly just you. Even on hot days, you may find only a few nude bathers, so it's pretty quiet here.

Problems:
Unknown legal status; cold water; homes nearby; river rocks.

Man! I didn't know Humboldt County had so many nude beaches!

I know the G'ville so called nude beach spot well, because about 30 years ago I swam there, with many others, on hot summer days. But the gravel pile mentioned is a tactful warning that the spot is indeed private, and those who own the access are not thrilled with having people down to splash around.
Back in the day, the river made a curve around what we called the island, and egrets nested there. Spotted otters playing in the autumn. But...long ago.

You can access any part of the river up to the high water mark. The road may be private but the beach itself is not. Just park at Tooby and wade upstream.

Call me old fashioned, but a sign seems more effective than a gravel pile.

Nevertheless, if it's the road I'm thinking of it is indeed private.

But I didn't realize there was a page for Humboldt County.

Why is the settlement details being kept so secret? The community has a right to know what the mcc is up to.

There is a nude beach on the Mattole but I would just as soon it not be published in the Bay Guardian.

If the Mateel gets screwed again, I don't know what I'm going to do.

Vmat2, vesicular monoamine transporter, The God Gene:

Explains a lot

Is there an atheist gene?

The beach at Benbow Lake is nudist.

Honest!

Since this is a "Grab Bag Post".

A bay area supervisor candidate (Nunn) was just killed in a plane crash. He was in a run-off. What happens to their election.

I'll bet they figure it out before we do.

Ernie - It's a slightly different situation, more analogous to the last Mendo DA's race. What happened there was that the election was called and a special election was set in which any candidate was allowed to register. But Vroman died much closer to the election, so I don't know what rules would apply.

The Mendo election was also decided on a plurality, the legality of which was ambiguous. However, each of the candidates pledged not to file a legal challenge following the election.

It'd be nice if the legislature cleaned up their election code and made everything clear.

Hey, Good Morning Ernie, It should be an interesting week ahead and I will see you in it.

Hi bunny, Indeed it will be an interesting week.

Erik said; "It'd be nice if the legislature cleaned up their election code and made everything clear."

If The legislature made laws simple to use, lawyers would have anything to do. (Humor)

(wouldn't)

Well, no one will probably read this, as it is a day later, but I just wanted to say to 5:33 that I totally agree.

We need a paradigm shift-- Why do people need to drive Mercedes, have the biggest house, marble counters? this is an unsustainable lifestyle, and the water issue is only one of many.

Many people who blame big growers are pretty big themselves. No-one wants to look in the mirror. Am I small or big? Depends on who I compare myself to. We all do what we can to get by, but really, almost everyone is big. We are all the problem. I say, if you are making over $30,000 a year at pot, you are big.

and what I mean by this is that we all have a corporate mentality. The difference is just one of scale. We do not have the resources of Shell oil to rape the earth, but we have the same instincs.

I think you might be putting the cart before the horse. Corporations are built on the idea of maximum efficiency. Individualism and our own pursuit of survival is different. If you look around the globe societies either focus on the individual or the tribe. If you lean too far one direction or the other you get less stability and less wealth. American has cultivated the individual to the extreme. My property, my rights, my car, my business, my children, my, my, my, my, my.... sometimes you have to give up ideas to take care of the tribe. No that means really give it up not just pretend like you do when you are in public.

10:56, this is 5:33. I've been saying these things my whole life. I'd rather live in a small, simple space surrounded by a few beautiful things, and have just enough for a comfortable life, that I feel safe locking up for a few weeks if, say, I want to spend some time with family out of the area, or go on a trip out of the country. The obsession with having the biggest, most expensive, and most up-to-date things is so, so sick. (I've had my computer for a year! I think I need a new one!) (My cell phone doesn't have a camera, e-mail, a fax machine, a spy satellite system, and a built-in screwdriver! I think I need to replace it!) (My car runs perfectly well and has great mileage, but it's got 100,000 miles on it! I think I need a new one!)

Water's the biggie all over the world, and here we are, pointing fingers at the loggers for what they did, while we suck up the rest of what the poor fish have for "homesteads" that are often nothing but pot plantations and vanity projects for "back-to-the-landers" who want as many purty, shiny new things as all those city slickers they supposedly didn't want to become.

ERNIE,WHAT YEAR IS THAT FIRE TRUCK?

1937 Amercan LaFrance

i thought so, i have always been facinated with fire trucks.hung out at the fire station by my house ion chicago years ago

We do not have the resources of Shell oil to rape the earth, but we have the same instincs.

Raping the earth is NOT an instinct.

sometimes you have to give up ideas to take care of the tribe.

Give up ideas?! I don't subscribe to this hogwash. And I don't need someone else to think for me, thank you. Tribe? Who's tribe? You are living in a romantic fantasy that has little to do with our present reality. IMHO The strengthening of individuality is the only hope for the healing of the planet and humanity.

Well that's fine if you've thought about the consequences. Don't bitch if it brings you more of the same chaos year after year. Individuality isn't a bad thing unless you use it to club everybody else over the head with so you can have the world run by your own ideas. Personally I'd rather have elected people with a set of rules have authority than leaving it to the strongest individuals to take charge leading my community where ever they choose. I want a say in the direction at least.

Truthfully I would like to be left alone. You don't mess with my world and I won't mess with yours.

Sadly it is too hard to survive without others. They get a bit upset if you take part of their water or you hunt in their forest or you have to drive across their property. The death of individuality is in the details.

Personally I'd rather have elected people with a set of rules have authority

Look at the where that gotten us.

You don't mess with my world and I won't mess with yours.

If you think I'm not going to mess with "your world" you have another thing coming. I AM messing with it and you saying "don't" will not stop me.

that has

oops tired fingers.
Look where that has gotten us.

Raping the earth is NOT an instinct.

Actually, it is. Any species would do it if the prevailing ecology didn't prevent them. The problem is that humanity has transcended ecology to its own demise and everything else's.

Well Tue Jul 01, 12:06:00 AM you have now missed by point several times. I give up.

No I didn't miss the point, I disagreed with it and made my own counterpoint which you chose to ignore.

The problem is that humanity has transcended ecology to its own demise and everything else's.

I thought you said the problem was instinct. Now you say it's transcendence? Hogwash followed by more hogwash.

Hey Eric, how long can the Humboldt Elections Office delay the release of the June 3 election final results, and what about Johanna?

Corn syrup is good for you? Maybe diabetes is a blessing!

WE need to spread the WORD, PP sent emails to it volunteers that we need to tell people to start buying RR tickets! Four weeks are LEFT!!!! SO BUY BUY BUY!!

I think they are final. Look on Heraldo's site.

Hey Eric, how long can the Humboldt Elections Office delay the release of the June 3 election final results, and what about Johanna?

I think they were released during the excitement last week. No changes for any of the supervisor races. No word from Johanna as to whether she will attempt a write-in candidacy.

What? The absentee ballets were all counted, and there was no sweeping victory from behind for Estelle? No surprise.

Maybe the RR audience finally got word of what PP did, and people finally got tired of supporting corporations instead of the people.

Who wants to stay in town. Smoke, Feds, bad vibes, I'm saving my energy and money for Reggae on the River and then on to Burning Man.

to much individuality and clubbing people over the head with THEIR wants and greedy needs is why pp stole ROTR to make a "not the same festival at the same place and time" rr. estelle still is last, and for some, no matter what, KMUD will always be wrong. you ppeople suck.

have fun! I'll be at Reggae Rising and then Willie Nelson!

How bitter, bitter you are. I know LOTS of Reggae Rising staff members who spent decades raising millions for the Mateel; and are active supporters of hospice, the community park, and lots of other local organizations, many are crew and chiefs of multiple local fire departments. They'ver been out defending YOUR homes and property.
BUT you say they suck.

Since the hospital, the school and the local firefighters have worked so hard at RR as well as ROR they should get PAID for their support. So they can continue to help.

have fun! I'll be at Reggae Rising and then Willie Nelson!

Say hello to the Feds for us.

Can I barf now? I always hated that defensive shit. We support the fire departments and local nonprofits so don't say anything!!!!

What you do is use your good works to shield you from ugly bad and self serving decisions. Then to make it worse you bully the leaders of the fire departments and nonprofits into making statements of support or keeping their mouths closed or you'll pull their funding.

Please crawl back under your rock we know where to find you if we need you anymore.

Besides they don't need any help they have Michael Richardson working to make sure no one will look too closely at the water use on that property.

How much weed do you have to turn over for fake water tests?

Even the worst scoundrels have a virtue or two. Just because Adolph Hitler may have helped a little old lady across the street doesn't excuse all of the atrocities that he bequeathed upon humanity. Likewise, just because a greedy dope grower was out fighting a fire doesn't let him off the hook. Corporate greed-heads like Buddha and PP should not be tolerated by the Mateel community any more than Individualists.

14,000 concert goers in the beginning of Aug, another 5,000+ in the end of Aug....will there be any water left in the Eel to test?

with 4 weeks to go looks like more like only 6-7,000 and 5,000 later, isn't benbow the same river?

If they only have 5,000 people on the site at the Willy show I'll eat my hat. Try 10,000. It isn't like the planning commission cares or is even going to ask them to prove it. Let's face it there is no one watching the planet Captain Kirk.

Sounds like the non-profits aren't going to make much at the rr concert this year with the possibility of a smaller audience.

they need to plan ahead and risk running out rather than losing out

Ah well no. You make sure you have enough stock to cover potential sales and that unopened stock can be returned.

There were problems with returns last year.

Hopefully RR will use fewer nonlocal food booths, so that the locals will be able to make more money and not have stuff left to return or throw away. The PP booth volunteer coordinator said they had new people on board last yeat because the some of the local food booths were boycotting. As the result there was too many food booths and not enough people to support it. So lets leave out the nonlocals and support the locals. However this year I don't know if they are repeating the same policy. Even though PP was allowed to have two thousand more people I don't know how many tickets were sold so far still four weeks to go. Dimmick Ranch is on the South Fork not the Eel.

PP will have accountability as to how many tickets are sold this year?

Hey 1:36, that's the south fork of the Eel. There's the main, the south and north forks and then there's the middle fork of the main fork that meets up at Dos Rios.

that is why the Sohum technical rescue crew is making back door deals with pp to say that the WN concert will benefit-is a benefit for them, so the technical team gets paid a small amount of $10,000 from the concert so that pp can tell Willy it is a benefit, and reap the rewards of cheaper cost charged from Willy, and they charge a whopping $75. I was told this when I called pp to inquire about the "benefit" issue, and was told "the Deal" was "struck between cb and Diana Totten.

sounds like a lot of forking around

You are fullashit and your info is suspected of being motivated by extreme hate. You are a benefit to us all.

Willy gets paid the same, the benefit designation is for alcohol sales.

Lemme see if I got this right. The will be no camping, no parking, no shuttle, and less than 3000 people allowed under the use permit for ROR at the Benbow not Lake. The advertising went out nationally and the response is that there will be 15,000 people attending the event and swimming in the lake. Will the beer drinkers have to stay in our beer jails again?

To 6:28pm
Nobody bullied the fire departments or chiefs. I know at least four local fire chiefs who are on the Reggae Rising staff, as they were for rotr.
Call them all the names you want. They'll still come and defend your house from fire. They'll still respond to your medical calls.
Oh, these greedy selfish people, cause they don't agree with you. Get over yourself. I hope you
don't choke on your barf.

10:55 I know better.

I'd believe it. Diana Totten is not a nonprofit but Beginnings is and maybe the only nonprofit PP has a need for now with Peter Ryce's influence in the community.

The fire departments and such don't choose sides they serve the public safety. It is obvious the planning commission doesn't take their job seriously so I am glad to hear some technical crew does. I don't think Alcohol cannot be served unless it is for a nonprofit. I'm not sure but I think that is how the brewery guy explained outdoor events work. A show will need a nonprofit for cover.

Jul 01, 10:15:00 PM ... they need to plan ahead

Exactly.

i heard the soup nazi is going to have a booth at rr....

As any show gets bigger the community will have to understand that professional foodies will be brought in to handle the volume. Nonprofits can always write grants and do the little stuff for help.

WAKE UP!!!! Where are the grants going to come from? That idea is so last century. The benefactors are fewer and farther between. There is far more competition for those fewer dollars.

I had always heard that all proceeds from sales of alcohol under an "event" alcohol permit had to go to a non-profit organization. I do believe that these one/two/three day temporary alcohol permits are available only to non-profit groups. For-profit companies have a more rigorous application process, costs, etc. I don't have a clue whether the State ABC (alcoholic beverage control?) cares if a non-profit org receives less than 100% of the alcohol sales income. I don't know, either, if it's okay to make the kind of deal someone claims that PP made with someone from Sohum Tech Rescue for the Willie Nelson show, or PP made with the friends of the Piercy VFD for RR 2007. I bet those groups are happy to have made arrangements for their financial benefit. I don't know who'd be happy if you raise a stink.
And I don't know how much PP is paying for Willie's show, but I've heard for a long time that Willie tries to give better deals for causes. He's been part of an awful lot of Live ----- shows.

How will they and did they get away with alcohol sales at RR where it benefited no one, financial failure aside.

deal...PP made with the friends of the Piercy VFD for RR 2007.

Poor reading comprehension. I get it.

"How will they and did they get away with alcohol sales at RR where it benefited no one, financial failure aside."

I don't know call the ABC in Eureka and ask.

or Sanctuary Forest. I hear Dimmick owes them a big one, kind generous man that he claims to be.

"WAKE UP!!!! Where are the grants going to come from? That idea is so last century. The benefactors are fewer and farther between. There is far more competition for those fewer dollars."

No shit. I couldn't have said it better myself. So what are the nonprofits going to do?

Well good luck getting an accounting about the real profit made.

Tuesday's 2:17 pm post made me LOL!
Let me get this straight; PP sent out emails encouraging the volunteers to tell people that they need to buy tickets so that the for profit entities can make money while the non-profits will have to compete for the food dollars and the volunteers work for free?
Who is the benefactor of the volunteer participation?
TD,PP, and the corporate sponser salesman?
How long will the paid workers put up with less than minimum wage and no benefits while PB, TD, and PP continue to profit?

Yuck a Roni. I am sick to death of this ugliness. CBPPPBTD and the whole alphabet soup of rip offs should just stop now while there is still a chance at peace. Surely I jest.

It's been nearly three weeks since the mediation between the MCC/PP/TD does anyone know if the agreement has been signed or what the hold up is?

Garth.

What is LOL?

Garth is so dippy he wants to complete the agreement before he announces it. That's no way to confuse people.

What is LOL?

It's similar to LSD but it's easier to stop smiling when you come down.

lol means "laughing out loud." Only it's probably never literally true.

I guess you had to be hear to hear the laughter.

Typo; here

Sun Jun 29, 07:36:00 PM

I do not know the details, but I have been spying on pp/td and I can tell you that they are up to no good, it appears that they plan on putting on a reggae concert the first weekend of August and they are furiously working away trying to get ready for it, they are also planning on bringing Willie Nelson to the Dimmick Ranch on August 31st. Through my investigations it appears they have conspired with the planning department for the permit for the willie nelson concert. I even saw them eating some sandwiches and drinking what appeared to be beer while listening to their stereo. One time I even think that they were having a nice day and enjoying the summer.

I bet the Mateel paid for the beer.

Lets not blame it on on Garth, the Mateel has tried many times to reconcile but in the light of new information that came out in the trial I think that now they are trying a harder line to protect their investments. They were trying at the beginning and PP had the hard line. Garth has to have the board members approval and of course the lawyers. Both sides had to very clear it with their lawyers before they can notify the public.
This is what I speculate is what is going on right now. Patience please.

Oh let me do my guess. IMHO It never was in PP/TD's idea to settle. Since they couldn't get the festival without a court case or for the price they demanded all they had to do was wait it out until ROR wasn't worth anything anymore. Then they didn't have to buy the trademark. By then everyone at MCC is pissed from trying to settle and getting no where. All that PP/TD needed to do then was keep the lawsuit going long enough to wear the MCC down to the lowest price possible just before the judge would put out his conclusion. This way the Mateel would have little choice. PP/TD spend a few more bucks on their attorneys but a whole lot less than what the MCC supposedly asked for. The choice left then is to spend another 100 grand of MCC money 4 attorney fees and end up with a ruling in their favor but no dough at all or settle. To go on I guess would cost big bucks and in the end, as we all heard Bragg say, there would likely be nothing. Bingo suddenly PP/TD seem willing to settle and the board apparently agreed (so the story goes).

How close am I?

I actually did some further research and found that the Mateel did not pay for the beer, PB did some weird technical mumbojumbo and there was a small explosion, and when the smoke cleared... corporate sponsorship of free beer and potato chips, it was pretty strange, but not the strangest thing I have seen.

Did PB get his commission?

15% right off the top.

and 200 free wristbands plus a kickback from the beer sponsor delivered to his home.

But we will never know for sure as long as the bookkeeper isn't keeping the books.

Who will be pp's bookkeeper this year?

Will they need one?

Bookkeepers are for suckers.

book keeper or book ie?

I've heard they've already started taking bets; That Reggae Rising will not be sold out on any day, ever, again is favored 10 to one.

The freakin Mateel is showing their true settlement colors. A show at the hall the night before the RR festival advertised as a pre-festival party is just wrong. It suggests that the MCC is somehow involved in the event.
Instead of trying everything in their power to settle this mess they created by hiring a new producer before actually firing the one they were under contract to work with, the MCC has benefited by the facts not ever being presented and ruled on by the judge. The membership will never actually be informed of the underhanded dealings and doings of the BOD. This is not settlement. This is more of the same from the people who alienated the Rotary Club by taking over their poker night.
What is the hold up on the settlement?

Hold up? The MCC was held up alright. Not at gunpoint but they sure were robbed!

You must be dizzy 09:40 from the spinning you do.

RR and BM seem to cost the same.

This person didn't go to the trial either. Obviously.

Poker Nights have been held this year by many to raise funds. Rotary doesn't own the rights to raise funds by having Poker Nights.

6:47 my bet is SM.

The MCC did not hire anyone until Carol QUIT, get it, she quit.

PP gains a lot if the judge never decides and there is no subsequent trial between the MCC and PP, because all the illegal actions would result in criminal charges against Carol, PB and Co.

Moral issues will also be dropped IF there is ever a settlement.I say if because lawyers have a way of confusing things.

Somebody needs to tell 6:47:00 that no one believes that trash anymore the stooges keep putting out there.

Who were the two Rotarian's who went to one of the Mateel meetings to complain about their ownership of all Poker fundraising events?

A pre-festival event. Smart. One love, one heart, one very odd decision.

Hold up? The MCC was held up alright. Not at gunpoint but they sure were robbed!

Sorry I forgot, TD and Carol were entitled to keep the Mateel's $33,000 deposit, and use the Mateel's Festival gear including BRIDGES and CUP without compensating them in the least. Boy am I spun.

Great idea having a pre- festival event for all those who may not wish to participate if a for profit three day event.

There is no settlement.

One of the Rotarians who was working under the notion that Rotary owned poker was Ernie Branscomb. Can't remember the other guy.

There have been, are and will be poker tournaments before Rotary camealong and after it is gone.

Mateel's was quite different that Mateel's/ Ernie is just a cranky old man.

Im my humble opinion.

sorry...

Meant to say...Mateel's tourny was quite diff than Rotary's. It is not a competition. We are all trying to keep the communiyu up and runnimg together.

There is no settlement.

Yes, there is. I've confirmed it with two attorneys and nearly half the Board.

Oh what is the settlement then? Or do you have to talk to the other half of the board?

When Ernie pulls up with the fire crew that puts out your house fire, or shows up with the medical guys to deal with your emergency you will realise that he is much more than a cranky old man. In fct he isn't cranky at all! He is a genuinely wonderful man. He just gives and gives and gives. And gives.
The other person who approached the MCC BOD was the president of the Rotary club. Greg Phau is no slouch either. In fact, all of the funds raised by the Rotary on their endevours and projects goes back into the community. The MCC events pay staff. BIG DIFFERENCE.
IMHO you are a sad piece of poo.
Flush.

There is a settlement, but has it been signed?

If so, why is everyone involved afraid to let us know? Or will it remain a secret because PP has no sense of responsibility to the community, preferring secret deals as in the past.

This doesn't bode well.

"In fact, all of the funds raised by the Rotary on their endevours and projects goes back into the community. The MCC events pay staff. BIG DIFFERENCE."

Ya gotta love the reasoning or lack thereof rather. Where do you think the staff spend their paychecks? How many employers actually provide full time jobs and healthcare for their employees.

yeah Ernie is a fine guy and the people running the event at the Mateel should have made nice and called and let the rotary know they were gonna do a poker thing too. it is a small town after all. That is something management would probably have taken care of. Its too bad the Mateel doesn't have that kind of management around anymore and relies on the volunteer board and staff volunteers for the most part. It would be nice if the community would stop forgetting that point. If Ray's suddenly didn't have a store manager anymore would you be surprised that there might be long lines or product missing or the doors not open on time?

Aha. Now I understand. That was an apology to Ernie. I am sure he feels better now.
