All Things Reconsidered Program Note
Tonight I'll have Charlie Custer and perhaps another guest or two to discuss the Code Enforcement Task Force and perhaps other law enforcement issues in Sohum. As always, at 7:00 p.m. on KMUD. Call-ins welcome.
Addendum: In the aftermath of the Council backlash against the Task Force, Bonnie Blackberry called in to my show to report that Council Chair Jill Geist had unilaterally changed the agenda for tomorrow morning's meeting. I'll try to follow up tomorrow.
Second addendum: Heraldo has a post about the show highlighting some of Charlie's points.

Sorry, yes, KMUD
All things considered, except opinions from the center or the right.
Actually I've had a number of right wingers on my show, including David Horowitz.

So, what would I have to do to make it not "tokenism?"
Besides Horowitz, I've had guests speak in favor of Israel's position in the Middle East conflict. Global warming skeptism. Anti-Measure T. I get a local conservative to weigh in on state ballot measures. I had a pro-gun rights show. I had a show in which I and a guest took progressives to task for anti-Christian bigotry. I've had a guest argue that Islam is inherently war oriented. I had a guest, albeit a left winger, debunk the 911 conspiracy theories popular around here.
Even when I haven't had guests, I've held discussions to examine some of the ideological sacred cows around here. One show was about PC censorship on campuses and elsewhere. While I don't see it as a right-left issue, some of the local radical crowd were extremely upset with me when I expressed support for water fluoridation and dedicated a show to it.
And in 2004 when I said I was voting for Kerry instead of Nader (for whom I'd voted in 2000) I had a string of callers screaming at me.
Maybe you ought to listen to a few shows before making assumptions.

Come on now Eric don't confuse this 11:53 loose screw with anyone who would be interested in facts. She/He won't listen to your show and even if he/she put on the right frequency at the right time they wouldn't hear anything but the voices in their heads.
Keep doing what your doing Eric, many of us out here in the ozone are listening, reading and learning. Thank You!

Speaking of facts, how do you feel about the right Reverend Jesse Jackson referring to our African-American brothers and sisters as niggers?

I would like to know the context, but Fox refuses to provide it.

Actually, it was kind of sleezy of Fox to release a recording of a private conversation, but that doesn't excuse Jackson's language.
But to release information about what Jackson said without any context in which to judge it is patently irresponsible. They should put the entire recording out for public judgment. Otherwise, Jackson is condemned by everyone's imagination.

Eric, I hope your speech impediment does not get in the way of a constructive show. I know KMUD is dedicated to allowing people with disabilities on the air but your garbled voice makes the show more akin to a roadside circus than something that is informative.
Well, one thing for certain re Jesse's "n"woird remark: he surely wasn't playing FOX as you suspected, evk, because this in no way is a good thing.
Face it, Jackson is a self obsessed loose canon. He was at his most despicable in Atlanta some years ago trying to turn the tragedy of the unsolved serial murders of young black boys into his own "look at me, I know who the killer is", media blitz.
He knew nothing.

It wasn't planned obviously. But it did help Obama. That's probably what Fox anguished about while putting off reporting on it for three days:
We can slam Jackson!
But it would help Obama.
But we can slam Jackson!
But it would help Obama.
Quite the journalistic dilemma.

I'm not condoning it, but the n word is somewhat acceptable in the black community. More so than in the white.
As a lifelong nigger I am greatly relieved to learn that it's oaky for me (a lifelong nigger) to use the nigger word.
A miked Jesse jackson sitting in a television studio cannot expect to have a PRIVATE conversation counselor.
Was it sleazy when President Nixon's "private" conversations were relased?

No, because they were:
a. released by the White House pursuant to a subpoena and made a public record by virtue of legal proceedings and,
b. there were evidence of crime.
Any more brilliant gotcha questions?
