How immature, unoriginal, and hateful it sounds to be using the phrase "rising from the ashes".
 

Why? Does People's have a patent on that word? Or that phrase? Hardly. As I recall, info on the Mateel's history has always included something like, "rising like the phoenix from the ashes, the Mateel community center was rebuilt through the proceeds of Reggae on the River, when our first beloved hall was burned to the ground following an arson fire."

Or, perhaps it's equally immature, original and hateful for people's to use the word "reggae" in any of their advertising.

Are they eschewing or is that a spin on pursuing and not having any luck getting? They're right, the line-up's not exactly top heavy with headliners, but I'm sure it'll be a nice event. Me, I'll be going to Reggae Rising on the River..
 

it is unfortunate that the event we all enjoyed for years and years has turned into this. A whole bunch of angry folks, a one day event on one of the shallowest stretches of the eel river, AAaargh all this reggae angst just makes me want to go to Konocti and see some washed up rockers drink their geritol.

The point is why can't the MCC leave it alone? Why'd they have to put that little barb in there.
 

Do your home work poster 7:34 and poster 8:08. The history page DOES NOT have those words or that thought included anywhere in it. The phrase was very recently composed and very eagerly used by the Mateel. Accuracy has never really been a strong point with MCC supporters. Ever.
 

These words ARE on the MCC.org history page. Is it time to update the site?
One of the benefit events for that building fund was the first Reggae on the River, which today, is co-produced by People Productions as our largest annual event, consistently attracting more than 12,000 visitors to our area every August.

This is great!! Like one of Aesop's fables where the lesson is quite clear. And this modest event sounds fun, pleasant, like Summer Arts, like ROR before it got overwhelmingly huge. Just enjoy it!

Very cool! I am proud of the Mateel for trying. The community will have fun at the concert and like 12:59 said, small and just like the old days.

We all know who is largely responsible for the widespread public belief that "Reggae on the River is dead." There was anything but honor to the actions of formerly entrusted comrades. It was despicable. Certain PPeople intentionally tried to make Reggae on the River disappear, only to reemerge as a privatized, renamed, no sell out show. What a f-ing waste! Nearly wasted it for everyone. The Mateel will be ok. The outcome for cheats, well, we all know how that story goes.

So, you know who you are, maybe it's time for some retractions. How about some apologies and honest PR? You are all pretty creative. How about you compose some public statements that affirm the existence of Reggae on the River? That would be a great step toward healing. The stunts that were, and continue to be, pulled are too low IMHO.
 

Maybe parrots like Anthony Postman (ThePostOM,) current editor of the Reggae Festival Guide, will do a retraction of his editorial comment, which appeared in the current issue in an article about "Greater Awareness Through Festivals" [lol] (go to page 40):"LARGE OPERATIONS CALL FOR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY - Keeping Reggae Rising (known for years as Reggae on the River) clean and green is becoming more and more..etc "

It is ironic, his rag also featured (go to page 18) listing for Reggae on the River...!

The mateel only sold 400 tickets so far . The new books show no profit from any of there ventures .They just got the books straighted out .idiots

The board and volunteer staff have been going it alone for over a year now. I want to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for bringing us Reggae on the River 2008. I admire your courage, energy, and sense of humor to put up with all this shit and still get the job done. Personally I don't care if just two people show up. They did it! They survived against incredible odds. (I'm sure it will sell out though as all my friends and family are going and that is quite a few heh). My son and his buddies knew and he doesn't even live around here. They are driving up.
 

Isn't there a $50,000 payment due to be paid on Boot's loan to the MCC coming up very soon? I sure hope that 6:15 was wrong with the 400 tickets sold figure. 6:28 I didn't catch your name so maybe you should follow your own advice.

I agree. As the poster said let's pull all our energy energy into helping the Mateel pump their sales. Just by copying the press release off the blog and sending it to ten friends and two radio stations and/or newspapers we can help the volunteers and Justin a lot. I've done marketing I know how it works. last minute word of the mouth is fast by email. They've got to be swamped. Get the Times-standard and Eureka Reporter to put it on their front page or how about the Chron. Yeah that's what I want to see. Finally I feel like I can do something that's helpful. I've been watching for so long feeling useless. Now I can help. I really like that idea.

The entire Dimmick site has wireless any one with a laptop can connect. The Mateel probably paid for it.
 

Its been a tough year for the festivals thus far, due to gas prices being so high. Even the RR is trying incentives to get more sales for their festival. I do believe that they would have been able to sell a few hundred more tickets if the Mateel community wasn't so angry about their loss of income.
As for the rise from the ashes isn't that how ROR started to begin with?
Unfortunately the Benbow isn't nearly as much fun as it used to be. So eat your brownies before you go.
 

You have 3-days till the show. You're a lot late to try to get coverage in any papers other than local and even that is doubtful. Radio you should have been cultivating that months ago as well as the media. Good luck. I hope you can swim.

Everyong doubted Reggae Rising would happen last year…. but it was the same staff, same thousands of volunteers, same production company… and the same artists that have always been served well by the production company (too bad the MCC couldn’t compromise!)
Locals call it “Reggae”… like, “Are you going to Reggae this year?” The name hasn’t changed the event.
I can’t wait for Reggae this year!!!! It’s a tradition.

It doesn't matter it is more than covering ticket sales. The idea is to let the public know Reggae on the River is alive and well and hasn't been cancelled forever. That's the message that PP and Scher have been putting out for over a year now.

Early this week I called one of the local motels to book a room for Saturday. I told them I wanted a room for the night of Reggae on the River. They said that wasn't until August and they did not know anything about the event at Benbow. I did get the room.
 

Check out "Warrior King" who I feel is the headliner this Saturday.

I wish that settlement agreement would solidify and come out already. this passes the better for everybody. It's probably being held up over the proper choice of a conjunction in the severability clause or something stupid.

Sorry to hear you feel this way. I suggest you get on the peace train along with the good folks at the Mateel. As many coordinators will tell you they thought they were working for the Mateel all those years. Others on the inside knew what was going on and just kept to their own business. Then there is the denial group. I understand why and how they arrived at their opinions and I am happy they have so much love in their hearts for the people they work with to want to believe them and support them in any circumstance. I am not posting here to take that away from you. But I will say I believe there is a high road to take here and to do that the sense of being entitled to another's property simply by association needs to be reviewed by all. If you build a home for someone else do you stand in their yard twenty years later and demand to be acknowledged time and time again for your work. I can tell you that the Mateel was repeatedly told to shut up and go away and not bother the coordinators because they were hated and no one wanted to hear from the Mateel. The Mateel did what they were asked to do out of respect for the production company. Just put the money on the table and leave and give us anything we want immediately was the message, over and over again, but don't ask for any thing in return. We pay you your money what else could you possibly want? Then down on site at least some people were told how horrible the Mateel treated the coordinators and crew and how they didn't do anything for them. I'll leave you to surmise the end of the info you got and which parties were untruthful. That is your opinion. I have mine. But there is a bus or a train or whatever you want to call it to get on here now before the opportunity is crushed forever to leave this behind and build a better community and Mateel in the future. No one is going to forget but at least we can all act like we have matured into responsible thinking adults. The person(s) guilty of duping the community will continue to do so I imagine depending on the settlement. It is up to you now whether or not you want to call peace or continue to be their play toy. Best wishes to you whatever you believe.

I am not any better than you at this and I have felt incredible rage at times. I am taking my own advice. Time to move on. My heart and service is to the Mateel and always will be.

Funny, we never needed postings, or posters, or promotional gimics like one day passes, when the "event" was Reggae on the River...hmmmmm. Garberville is absolutely plastered with posters. There are print and radio ads. Too bad about the financial failure, now that the heart has been torn from Reggae.

Don't worry Rex White's fantastic video footage of RR should be enough to perk sales of RR. He bought the equipment to use at ROR of course. It is really the music and video rights behind that festival that is worth gold.
