Reggae On The River ® Rises From The Ashes & Lands In Benbow July 19
(Redway, CA July 11, 2008): Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, on Saturday, July 19th, the Mateel Community Center will revive Reggae on the River as a single-day, roots reggae and world music celebration at Benbow Lake State Recreation Area in southern Humboldt. A transitional year for the event, with issues still unresolved in the festival’s ongoing legal dispute, Reggae on the River 08 will be an in-house production offered in a keep-the-name-alive-forever spirit, with hopes to return the festival to 3 day event that will again support the work of both community non-profits and the Mateel Community Center.
In keeping with the paired down theme, the festival will eschew top heavy headliners to feature a deep and top class billing of international talent including The Wailing Souls, Culture with Kenyatta Hill, Katchafire, Warrior King, Sister I-Live, Stevie Culture, and Afromassive. Additionally, the event will offer vendors, a children’s area, delicious food and drink, a beer & wine bar, and plenty of irie vibes on the beautiful shores of the Eel River in Benbow Lake S.R.A.
Don’t miss this chance to support the work of MCC while helping keep Reggae on the River alive. Tickets are available online at www.inticketing.com and at the usual Humboldt and Mendocino County outlets for $50 advance. Visit either www.mateel.org or www.reggaeontheriver.com for further festival information and don’t miss the return of Reggae on the River at Benbow Lake State Recreation Area on Saturday, July 19. Gates open at 11am and music starts at 11:30am. Camping is available on a first come, first served basis in both Benbow Lake and Richardson Grove campgrounds by calling (800) 444-7275.

Or, perhaps it's equally immature, original and hateful for people's to use the word "reggae" in any of their advertising.
Get over yourself.

I didn't say 'original' I said UNoriginal --LOL, But I think the word that best sums up what I mean is --tacky
So is gloating. You got what you wanted, so why not just be gracious about it and leave it alone? Like the second poster said, that metaphor has been in use by the Mateel for a long time.
The point is why can't the MCC leave it alone? Why'd they have to put that little barb in there.
One of the benefit events for that building fund was the first Reggae on the River, which today, is co-produced by People Productions as our largest annual event, consistently attracting more than 12,000 visitors to our area every August.

Some of the worst offenders have been cleaned up since the Mateel's release went up.
I wonder who misled them, convientently misled them in the first place.
Now shut up and everyone just enjoy the show.
Thanks.
Put that energy to good use and quit spinning it or next I'll go and link to all the utubes and the trial stuff at KMUD archives.
Let's get on the peace train. It's over folks. The Mateel finally has PP's fangs out of its throat and PP has a whole lot of work to do to see if they can rebuild a new show.

This is great!! Like one of Aesop's fables where the lesson is quite clear. And this modest event sounds fun, pleasant, like Summer Arts, like ROR before it got overwhelmingly huge. Just enjoy it!
And 7:34, you also said it sounds hateful for them to say "rising from the ashes". I think you sound hateful yourself. Take your venom elsewhere.
We all know who is largely responsible for the widespread public belief that "Reggae on the River is dead." There was anything but honor to the actions of formerly entrusted comrades. It was despicable. Certain PPeople intentionally tried to make Reggae on the River disappear, only to reemerge as a privatized, renamed, no sell out show. What a f-ing waste! Nearly wasted it for everyone. The Mateel will be ok. The outcome for cheats, well, we all know how that story goes.
So, you know who you are, maybe it's time for some retractions. How about some apologies and honest PR? You are all pretty creative. How about you compose some public statements that affirm the existence of Reggae on the River? That would be a great step toward healing. The stunts that were, and continue to be, pulled are too low IMHO.
It is ironic, his rag also featured (go to page 18) listing for Reggae on the River...!
Who's teaching ThePostOm to talk?
And without slavery we wouldn't have jazz, blues, or rock.
But there are plenty more examples of good coming from bad. War has produced cures for ailments, technical advances, and even pulled countries out of depressions. Hitler brought Germany the autobahns and various scientific advances. Stalin defeated Hitler and industrialized the Soviet Union.
One of my favorite movie quotes of all time:
Harry Lime (Orsen Wells), in "The Third Man"
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."
"Convoy of feds heading for Whitethorn."
Very interesting timing by 10:43 and his/her buddy 11:28. PP's spin machine wouldn't have any reason to sabotage/derail this thread by reporting a false rumor of a Fed bust, would they?
Do you people ever stop with the mongering rumors. Tell the whole story and tell who you are or leave it alone.
God the stories I could tell about PP and the previous festivals if I used your idea of integrity. We'd all get busted.
I hope ROTR is a success, and wish the Mateel all the best. But can't we keep this on a positive note? It seems like the Mateel is trying to do that.
What's the big Portland paper?
Wait what about Ashland They can still make plans and drive
Reggae on the River is alive and well and the Mateel did it.
As for the rise from the ashes isn't that how ROR started to begin with?
Unfortunately the Benbow isn't nearly as much fun as it used to be. So eat your brownies before you go.
7:47 you need to get a life no one should believe your first paragraph since the second paragraph reflects your true agenda. As a foot soldier for dark forces you must be hidden in all your agendas. Mateel to fail is your mantra. You spin a WEB of deceit, a SITE of legerdemain. You would not give a homeless person a quarter lest you expect it to bring you some measure of return.

Reggae Rising is going strong…
Everyong doubted Reggae Rising would happen last year…. but it was the same staff, same thousands of volunteers, same production company… and the same artists that have always been served well by the production company (too bad the MCC couldn’t compromise!)
Locals call it “Reggae”… like, “Are you going to Reggae this year?” The name hasn’t changed the event.
I can’t wait for Reggae this year!!!! It’s a tradition.
PS. stagolee, that’s pessimistic. We want to celebrate that culture and jam out to reggae! And we want to party with our friends."
Yuck. Can you believe it. Press shit gets so ugly.
But nice try at getting people not to even try
Raped, molested, and the victim of a crime is how I feel. Anger generally is associated with those things.

Heal the community??? Just take a look at all of the hate the MCC, ilks like you and Eric Kirk have perpetuated through this blog.
Maybe I've missed something but nowhere have I read or heard from any of you martyrs, or the MCC BOD words of love and respect nor have I seen you accept or acknowledge any of the hard working crew who built ROTR in to a world class event.
You don't welcome any of the elders of the show. Instead you view them as spies and thieves. Heal the community's differences??? When, where and how??? You have people like Tofu, Margie, Anna Banana and Eric Kirk leading the hate brigade.
I wish that settlement agreement would solidify and come out already. this passes the better for everybody. It's probably being held up over the proper choice of a conjunction in the severability clause or something stupid.
Sorry to hear you feel this way. I suggest you get on the peace train along with the good folks at the Mateel. As many coordinators will tell you they thought they were working for the Mateel all those years. Others on the inside knew what was going on and just kept to their own business. Then there is the denial group. I understand why and how they arrived at their opinions and I am happy they have so much love in their hearts for the people they work with to want to believe them and support them in any circumstance. I am not posting here to take that away from you. But I will say I believe there is a high road to take here and to do that the sense of being entitled to another's property simply by association needs to be reviewed by all. If you build a home for someone else do you stand in their yard twenty years later and demand to be acknowledged time and time again for your work. I can tell you that the Mateel was repeatedly told to shut up and go away and not bother the coordinators because they were hated and no one wanted to hear from the Mateel. The Mateel did what they were asked to do out of respect for the production company. Just put the money on the table and leave and give us anything we want immediately was the message, over and over again, but don't ask for any thing in return. We pay you your money what else could you possibly want? Then down on site at least some people were told how horrible the Mateel treated the coordinators and crew and how they didn't do anything for them. I'll leave you to surmise the end of the info you got and which parties were untruthful. That is your opinion. I have mine. But there is a bus or a train or whatever you want to call it to get on here now before the opportunity is crushed forever to leave this behind and build a better community and Mateel in the future. No one is going to forget but at least we can all act like we have matured into responsible thinking adults. The person(s) guilty of duping the community will continue to do so I imagine depending on the settlement. It is up to you now whether or not you want to call peace or continue to be their play toy. Best wishes to you whatever you believe.
I am not any better than you at this and I have felt incredible rage at times. I am taking my own advice. Time to move on. My heart and service is to the Mateel and always will be.
It is hard to let go. Help me. Get on the peace train and I will follow.
I wish they had broadcast the trial over KMUD. Why didn't People's people stay for the parts other than their own story telling?
A play Hey we can do a play. Get those transcripts and have actors read the parts on air. Zoooom go the ratings. Reggae Warrior can be the judge. Kevin Arnoul as Carol with a deep voice. Anna as Knowles. Can we get her to cross dress? Heh.
Come on people its a joke. Oh yeah no satire on the web. I forgot. Bad me
Jah mon
Now let's use that same tenacity to grab hold of the real problems in our community: the uncertain fate of Humboldt Bay, the sorry state of our schools, the proposal to levy a fee for firefighting that would go to CalFire rather than our local VFDs, renegade code enforcement and million-dollar Keystone Cops (er, FBI) raids accomplishing little more than the further undermining of our civil rights....
Is it because we feel so powerless against in the face of these larger concerns that we indulge ourselves by posturing against our neighbors?
Personal attacks? How well you model words of love and respect.
Tofu, Margie, (we know you by your taunts..) Anna, and Eric, have, and continue to tell their truth as they experienced it. Anna's letter to the editor this week was right on. PREDATORY BUSINESS PRACTICES> The experiences of the BOD/MCC are not imaginary or hippie dreams lost. It has been many years of dure$$. Until the event was ...ultimately... well.. you know.
Listen, calling a spade a spade is not a hate brigade. It is the truth brigade.
Keep trying. Maybe it is time to expand your emotive palette. There are some that care about fairness, honor, and integrity. It raises concern (and voices) when the health of the community is threatened by acts of low integrity and outright lies. (same show new name. that - among other things -was so wrong.) It doesn't mean they hate you. Sorry, but until society disintegrates completely, you will just have to put up with voices of conscience.
11:34:00 AM pegged it. Try to read it carefully. The longtime "builders of reggae" of which there are many, on both sides,! were all conpen$ated, and loved up duly.
guess what? There is no eternal praise flame. That is the one you must kindle on your own with God, and the Angels.
Happy soul searching.
Normally I limit announcement postings to nonprofit events, but I'll be happy to post a promotion if they send me one. But PP hasn't made it a habit to send me press releases. I have to go find them or I'm accused of unfairness.
Wait for RR to send you the information on their for profit event. Why give a for profit event FREE advertisement?
Standing on principle
Thu Jul 17, 08:46:00 PM"
right. all of those vendors want to gamble the money to have a booth, just to "stand on a principle."
I wish them well, hope they are carpooling, and hope the booth fees were not too high.... and that plenty of people come to the show, to purchase stuff from the vendors.
Remember, when you point at another, you have three fingers pointing back at yourself. Yep, that seems about right.
I can't think of any new show that will ever compare.
Last weekend was a new beginning for Reggae on the River and the commUNITY.
