Obama up in... Montana???
Probably an outlier. But that it's even close enough for that is amazing. Then again, nobody expected Democrat Jon Tester to beat Republican Conrad Burns in the Senate race there of a couple of years ago either. Maybe some of those Californians who can't afford to stay here and have been leaving ended up there as well as Colorado?
Anyway, Republicans have been whining about McCain's very ineffective campaign thus far. There's been a shakeup and a Rove acolyte has taken over the campaign. Expect the "positive campaign" to end and the mud to start flying.

It's the 50-state Strategy. Howard Dean set it up through the DNC and Obama has taken the concept and is running with it. In California, Democrats are making a parallel attempt to reach out in Republican dominated counties.
There have been some successes, starting with the national congressional elections in 2006. More recently and more locally, Del Norte County just became "blue" for the first time in memory (more Dems registered than Republicans).

We'll see if these polls hold, but if McCain has to spend money and time in Montana come September, it's over.
