Scott Greacen on Red Emmerson's last ditch bid
Scott is the EPIC E.D. and occasional host of the Tuesday night KMUD Environment Show had a guest editorial in today's Time Standard. He explains why he isn't so enamored with the prospect of a Sierra Pacific buy-in of the PALCO mill.
Addendum: Scott's piece has earned some commentary from Rose and others.
Meanwhile, the Bankruptcy Court has cleared the way for the Mendocino Redwood Company plan. There will be appeals.

Heads asploding at Rose's. How dare those damn enviros raise questions about sweet old SPI? How dare they raise money? I never. (Clutch pearls, gasp for breath.)
Here is a different take on Sierra Pacific Industries' Red Emmerson.
Perhaps, you might say, a little more "fair and balanced" biography of Red Emmerson and SPI.

Scroll down to see the company history.
But the point's moot, seeing that MRC will be the new Scotia mill and old timberlands owner.
I wish them the best of luck and hope they don't go the way of Blue Lake Forest Products and Eel River Sawmills.

I don't know if that account is more balanced really as it has nothing negative about him unless you count the condom incident. But it is an interesting read nevertheless.
In April 2007, SPI settled a class-action suit filed on behalf of hundreds of SPI truck drivers for $2.4 million; drivers alleged they had been forced to work 15-hour shifts without the breaks the law requires.
No wonder Rose, John Campbell and other rape & pillage fans support SPI. They stick it to the land and the worker.

It was at Red's mill on the Samoa Peninsula that Reagan, when he first ran for Governor, paraphrased from Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead " A tree's a tree, how many do you have to look at? you've seen one redwood you've seen them all."
Jayne Wyman, Reagan's first wife starred in the movie with Gary Cooper. The loggers loved it and the rest is history. Of course Red made a killing when Johnson made Redwood National Park and another killing when Carter expanded it. He used the proceeds to buy out Southern Pacific's forest holdings making him the largest landowner in the state.
My guess is that Red's stewardship wouldn't be as bad as Hurwitz's (as it would be hard to top Hurwitz by anyone in the 20th century including the likes of Merlo) but would be worse than Fisher's.
