They won't go quietly into the night

Red Emerson is making a last ditch push to replace the the Mendocino Redwood Company's approved plan with his own. I spoke to one activist today who thinks Emerson's apparent obsession is rooted in a principle to head off a company who is friendly to environmentalists.

Seems like a stretch, but you have to wonder why Emerson didn't offer his "superior" plan earlier.

The article doesn't have many details. Anybody with any insight?

Comments:
Emerson doesn't care if he loses money on it. He doesn't want the precedent. He'd rather ruin Scotia the way he ruined Hayfork.

Hell - haven't you been listening to the hearings in Corpus Christy....goddamn MRC has been lying all along, to us and to the judge.

Emmerson is posititioning a just-in-case bid, hoping that the bondholders will succeed in derailing the MRC reorganization plan, leaving him to pick up the juicy pieces he wants. If he succeeds, Gaia have mercy on Humboldt County.

But the judge said the evidence Emmerson wanted to present wasn't relevant to the decision before the court. Red left the courtroom at that point.

As to motivation, yes Emmerson hates enviros, but he loves money and power even more. Ultimately, this is a long-shot worth pursuing because if it did work, it would likely leave SPI in control of a key portion of the Humboldt County timber basket.

Is there a connection between Emerson and Rodoni?
