It's Joe

MSNBC is reporting that McCain is already going negative, within moments of the announcement. I'm trying to remember if that's happened in the past. To my memory most campaigns have waited a day or so, especially so close to the convention.

Comments:
Disgusting.

I was hoping he would choose Hillary. But Biden is a good choice.

Ugh.

Al Franken just pulled ahead.

http://tcdailyliberal.com/blog/2008/08/good-news-franken/

Clinches it for Obama. Biden has the working class appeal in the states that matter.

Geee Eric, you mean your guess it would be Hillary is wrong?

i hope Mc cain wins so all of you hate mongers can realize your dreams of TOTAL destruction, and you will get rich beyond your wildest dreams...

Gee, you sound like a nice guy.

Gee, you sound like a nice guy.

McCain negative? No. He's just "havin' fun".

But we'll see who he selects that had good words to say about him during the primaries.

Hey, maybe it'll be Hillary.

For a while I was convinced that Democrats wanted to win this election.

Yes Cap, my guess was wrong. She wasn't even vetted.

CPR - actually, I think Biden will help him win the election. He may lose a few progressives to Nader or McKinney, but he'll gain many more centrists.

Too bad Obama had to choose a weenie.

No surprise, I predicted it two weeks ago.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Obama's strategic calculations are flawless. I had hoped it might be Kaine, but I now see that this is the superior choice and will galvanize the center to nail it down in Nov. Brilliant.

People who think McCain has a temper will be surprised when they see the clips from Biden's old Senate committee hearings.

A more vile, hate-filled man than Joseph Biden, you will never meet.

The dems really know how to fuck up and lose elections. The vast majority want to end the occupation and are sick of war and imperialism. How do the dems respond, they throw together a tag team of warhawks, whom undoubtedly will reinstitute the draft. The only candidates it really makes any sense to vote for if one wants "change" are McKinney and Nader.Sure,an Obama win should be a bit safer for us all compared to a McCain, but really, just how much?Obama we know at least has his sights set on going into Pakistan,is that really less dangerous and ridiculous than McCain wanting to keep troops in Iraq for 100 years?

M:

You need to put the pipe down and rejoin the real world. This election is about defeating the Republicans and their destructive policies. I hate people like you who think political purity is more important that political reality. The Green Party self-destructed because of the debate over whether someone who didn't TOTALLY adhere to the 10 Key Values was worth supporting. Not that 8 out of 10 was good enough. Reality is gaining power. Winning elections. NOT sitting on the sidelines whining about how terrible things are. We'll witness the Second Coming long before Nader and McKinney get taken seriously by the majority of voters, not the nut case fringe.

How is Biden a weenie? What does that mean?

I'd have preferred Hillary, but he is the next best choice. He is popular with the working class, Jews, and probably will win PA. He needs to watch his mouth, but he'll be a great attack dog, a role important for VP candidates. Obama can stay on the high road, while Biden throws some dirt. His foreign policy experience is also valuable and he was one of the lone voices asking the Bush administration what they were going to do about Iraq once they took Baghdad. He wanted a plan. Imagine that!

"This election is about defeating the Republicans and their destructive policies."

Problem is that Biden backed many of those policies.Take a good gander at his voting record. But I'll some credit where it's due,he's a better choice than Hillary or Baye, or Gore, and hey,Biden isn't all that much like Cheney, despite backing many of his policies. That's about it.Obama should of went with Jim Webb.

"We'll witness the Second Coming long before Nader and McKinney get taken seriously by the majority of voters, not the nut case fringe."

And your children and their children will bear the cost of that reality. You attitude is the the attitude to that led to 2 consecutive Bush terms, because political purity is more important than political reality.

Wait until they get to Denver. My hunch is that there's likely to be a reversal in the mix and that Hilary may get the nod at the last minute. A little extra drama to bring the queen back on stage and bring the fringe vote into the fray assuring a Dem victory ala big Bill. See if I'm not right.

Too bad Obama had to choose a weenie.

Better stick to cutting and pasting, Eric. Leave the analyzing to those who actually think about a situation before they react.

10:56 you're nuts!

10:12 Jim Webb is to the right of Biden and he refused to be considered for VP anyway.

M:

Voting for Nader or McKinney is just political masturbation. Sure, go ahead and vote for them, I would expect nothing else. And when they don't even get a percentage point of popular vote, you can sit there feeling superior while the rest of us get on with changing the world for the better.

So, now that this is all over - anti-climatic for some of you - who do you think McCain will pick?

And how many times will the repos refer to McCain as "War Hero" or "POW" at the Minnihaha convention?

Start a pool.

Fifty Times

:) So much for change.

I was abit worried when I heard he was considering the Texas guy - but Biden? Hahahahahahahahaha

Biden is a HUGE change from Bush/Cheney/McCain.

10:56, I doubt if that will happen because Obama needs, at this critical stage, to temper the voting public's opinion, not radicalize it. With Biden in the number two seat Obama can be seen as centrist and not be criticized nearly as much for being an outsider. Later he will be able to show his true colors (no pun) by appointing Hilary as Sec.of State or S of I. But I don't think she'll be getting the veep slot at this late date. It's simply not the way its done. In politics there is always protocol, and it is important now for Obama to stay close to the rail or he'll risk letting McSame slip in like Bush did in '00 and '04.

Ask any leader of any group that has had to create effective change inside an organization and they should all tell you that understanding the nuances and complexities of the system you are going to change is critical to success. Another example, if there is a path of precariously placed stepping stones across a river that on and off rages with rainwater before you move one stone you need to know two things. First how all the stones work together to get you to the other side and secondly if you move one how will it change how the other stones work together to someone across safely. Will they become more wobbly? Will more water push on another one of those stones and rip it from its place? Will the water rushing through the area where the stone has been removed push out the sand and thus change the entire crossing forever. Can you put the stone back if it is the wrong choice? This is why having someone with prudent political background in Washington is a must. Not only is Obama about change he is going about it in a way that is most effective and prudent.

Hillary herself may have been okay but the machine she has been running and using to maintain political power is about as corrupt as they come. Basically because in her era of politics that is what it took to get a woman to a position of power. She just didn't know when to let go. I would have lost all faith in Obama had he chosen her. It would have been the hallmark of an idiot and a catastrophe for his administration. We don't need a Dick Cheney role in drag.

Voting for Nader or McKinney is just political masturbation.

You've got that backwards. By going along with the mainstream you are being completely ineffective. Those of us who are working for real change can be seen where the real work is being done. They may put us in jail or in a warehouse, but our voice will stand out because it is the true answer to the reality that confronts the voting public. The media reality of polls and pundits serves to keep unthinking folks in line and silent.

You will not effect change until you have reformed things. You will only add 'noise'. Societies and governments don't change overnight unless a whole lot of people die. Working inside the system to create the environment for change and to move people forward in small increments so everyone can adjust is change to. Patient change we all can live with. The world is about everyone not just your circle of friends and family. You have to think on a bigger scale as well as the individual.

Joe Biden is an ultra conservative when it comes to marijuana law. He authored the 856 Rave Act:

http://bbsnews.net/bw2003-05-04.html

This act is being used across California to shut down Medical MJ facilities.

---Working inside the system to create the environment---

Been there done that. There's no time to wait for slowpokes to catch up any more. Now it's time for a major wake up call. Time for action in the streets. A small amount of people can make a large noise. Time to leap over the stream in one bound. Join together within your own affinity group to make that leap. If you don't have an affinity group start one today! Divided you'll fall into the turbulent water. It's because folks like 12:02:00/12:36:00 can't think outside of the box that we are on the brink of ...

"...he'll gain many more centrists."

Eric, you are wrong. Obama is pandering to people who are already in his camp.

The only thing which could save the Democrats now is if McCain were to make a similarly dunderheaded choice (e.g. Mitt Romney).

Good! I hope he legislates a way to wire your mouth shut!

Biden lost his first wife and infant daughter in a car accident. Now, I would never say this is a good thing, but it shows me that he has been through some tough times, which can only make him stronger.

hey 215, that was hilarious ;)

Looks like another Cheney behind the Bush configuration.

This kind of talk is exactly why your candidates never get anywhere. A better strategy would be to tell Obama that you will all vote for him if he agrees to include some of your ideas or candidates into his cabinet.

If you vote the one agenda thing then don't complain when the NRA folks and the anti-abortion crowd, and/or Christian coalition does the same thing.

Think outside the box of my way or the highway. Compromise. You don't live in a world of 1.

V.P.s have two jobs leading up to the election.

1) Not embarrass his party Presidental nominee.

2) Rip the heart out of the opposing party Presidental nominee.

Biden fits these qualifications nicely. If you heard his speech in Springfield you would know McCain is in for a world of serious hurt.

Rip the heart out of the opposing party Presidental nominee.

Easier said than done. Obama has the heady vision but McCain has the heart of mainstream America. He's getting a lot of mileage in the heartland out his POW status too. It may not be logical, but things of the heart never are. His 'man who's one of the people' pose unfortunately has a warmth which Obama's seemingly elitist stance can't touch as far as middle America is concerned.

Joe Biden is an ultra conservative when it comes to marijuana law.

Best news I've heard in a long time.

The dems really know how to fuck up and lose elections.

Hello? We haven't lost yet. This is a strategic move not an ethical one. It's all about winning the crossover vote in swing states right now. Obama doesn't care about your vote or about being politically correct. He's into winning. This is the best way to do that.

The vast majority want to end the occupation and are sick of war and imperialism.

I wish that was true. I don't believe it.

Eric, you are wrong. Obama is pandering to people who are already in his camp.

Appalachian whites are not in his camp. Biden can bring some of them into it.

It's probably his best strategic choice. I just wish he could have nominated someone who didn't single-handedly derail the opposition to the confirmation of Justice Clarence Thomas with his weeniesque "you have the benefit of the doubt" speech.

I'm sure that Biden has a lot of pull with Appalachian white folks.

I think that is the problem. Us white folks haven't done a very good job so far. its all been greed, greed and more greed. And it's getting pretty vicious.
Biden is part of the "Democratic Machine," and he is cashing in his chips.
Who knows if it'll help. I'm so sick of watching these guys rise to prominence on the support of people who want change, and then make all the deals with those who did not support them. As if those guys are more important. It's like Al Gore all over again. these guys are afraid of revolution and reform.

I'm sure that Biden has a lot of pull with Appalachian white folks.

It's what the Obama campaign's internal polling showed.

Uh, I think that may have changed this week when McNoun,Verb,POW had trouble remembering how many houses he has. Calling Obama an elitists may not be such a good idea any more and the POW card may have been played one or two too many times. Middle Americans like Joe Sixpack and Betty Winebox may just have had enough and it is only going to get worse for McPOW from here on out. Did you hear about the McElite 9 car motorcade to Starbucks to snag a large cappuccino? McCain was probably wearing his $500 Italian loafers at the time…

All they have to do is keep showing this .

Middle Americans like Joe Sixpack and Betty Winebox

You, Joe Pothead, are so completely out of touch with the heart of America that it isn't even funny. Maybe if elitists like you quit smoking that high quality connoisseur "bud" you would be able to think clear enough to recognize the truth when it's right in front of your nose. Then you won't have to resort to unrealistic stereotyping of decent hardworking citizens.

Sorry to disappoint your unrealistic stereotyping of decent hardworking citizens like myself and Joe and Betty and I have not your connoisseur "bud" in about 30 years. Being real middle class (well under $100,000 a year) I can easily relate to Joe and Betty. Having family members who are in the middle of the home rip off scam perpetuated by Republican elitists and having to pay $4.00 a gallon for gas because of Republican elitists (read Phil Gramm) I can think plenty clearly to recognize the truth when it's right in front of your nose. Our (Joe, Betty, and the rest of us middle Americans) economy is as bad as it has ever been and I/we can lay the blame right at the feet of Republicans that have been in office and power for the past 7 ½ years. I can explain more if need be but right now I have to head off to church.

I can explain more if need be but right now I have to head off to church.

Don't bother I've heard it all before. Better you spent your time in front of the tv with yet another sixpac. It may help you forget the bullshit you heard in Church, which btw is even worse than pot for confusing the mind.

I am thrilled with the current ticket. Biden will chew McCain to pieces. What is important that he represents the values of most working class Americans. That he has a track record and it is very apparent that he does. Not just not another "talker" which I see alot in Humboldt County.

My church is hosting a How to get filthy rich seminar, right after services.

Jesus loves me this I know,
My portfolio tells me so,
Subprime mess has caused you woe,
Rapture Hedge Fund is the way to go.

Great we are fighting over the opiates of the masses. Religion versus pot.

Someone care to take on foreign policy or something a bit more to the nitty-gritty of every one.

Religion is pot, mon.

Halie Selassi, come home.

It is lucky for McCain.

When Biden tries to chew up his opposition, Biden usually chews himself up instead.

A man's mode of transportation speaks volumes about who he is. On most days, Joe Biden rides an Amtrak train 80 minutes to and from work. Like millions of commuters, his day depends on the reliability of public transportation. That alone gives him a better vantage of America than our current, sheltered vice president.

Sorry I don't drink beer in front of the TV. And I never drink beer a six pack at a time. Maybe two beers if I am on a roll and socializing with friends.

I wrote this before and now that Biden is on the ticket it applies to him as well as Obama.
Let me tell you something. I am not so stupid as to believe that Obama is the second coming of Christ. I know he will not do everything that I hope he will do. I know he will let me down on issues that I believe in with all my heart. I know he has beliefs that I don’t agree with and that he will be forced to do things that even he does not want to do but has to do for reasons that I cannot even know right now. When Clinton was elected I was hoping that he would be a whole lot more than what he was. He did a lot of things that I passionately disagreed with. In fact when it was all said and done I felt he let me down. But, BUT he left this country in a whole lot better shape than the country he inherited. And this country was in a whole lot better shape than it is now. You may understand that Obama is not going to be everything to you but I cannot even imagine what this country would be like with four more years of Bush/McCan’t. I CAN imagine how much better off we would be if somebody other than Bush had been put in office in 2000 and 2004. With this perspective I cannot understand how anybody, especially on the left, could ever consider voting for McLost In The Weeds. Putting Obama down at this point is nowhere. The alternative is worse than you can imagine. Look at what McSame has said and done in the last few months/weeks/days. How he has changed his ideas. And his stance on the war. The things he has said about it. What and how he thinks about normal people. People like you and me. Put it all together and I cannot understand how anybody could give McSenile more than two seconds of thought. Go ahead and bash Obama and Biden but think about the alternative and the repercussions of voting for McSame/Bush.

a part from the online new york times article.

Davis and other evolutionary psychologists argue that the reason John Edwards's adultery has more zing in our heads than a dry policy dispute that could cost taxpayers billions of dollars is that the human brain evolved in a period where there were significant survival advantages to finding out the secrets of others. Since humans lived in small groups, the things you learned about other people's character could tell you whom to trust when you were in a tight spot.

"We are continuing to navigate through the modern world with a Stone Age mind," Davis said.

In the Pleistocene era, he added, there was no survival value in being able to decipher a health-care initiative, but there was significant value in information about "who needs a favor, who is in a position to offer one, who is trustworthy, who is a liar, who is available sexually, who is under the protection of a jealous partner, who is likely to abandon a family, who poses a threat to us."

We may consciously know that we are no longer living in small hunter-gatherer groups and that it no longer makes sense to evaluate someone like Edwards as we might a friend or intimate partner, but our reptilian brain doesn't realize this. Our prefrontal cortex might reason that a man who cheats on his wife while she is fighting cancer could make a perfectly fine president in a complex world, but the visceral distaste people feel about Edwards stems from there being an ancient part of the human brain that says, "Gee, I don't want to get mixed up with this guy, because even in my hour of greatest need I might not be able to count on him," said Frank T. McAndrew, an evolutionary social psychologist at Knox College in Illinois.

Most Americans, of course, will never have any personal interaction with the people they elect president. Nonetheless, if the evolutionary psychologists are correct, people will tend to choose leaders they can relate to personally -- and reject the leaders with whom they cannot see having a personal relationship.

Joe Biden is a poor choice for VP, but at least Obama didn't pick John Edwards. I still can't believe John Edwards was crazy enough to run for President again, and I can't believe people were naive enough to support him. With all of the options Democrats had this time around, why would anyone have been foolish enough to believe anything Edwards says? Talk about flip-flopping, Edwards is a professional flip-flopper. Chris Kerrigan is paid by people for his political advice, WHY? Kerrigan leaving behind his Eureka City Council seat to work for Edwards in Iowa was pathetic and sad.

I never drink beer a six pack at a time. Maybe two beers if I am on a roll

Denial is a sure sign of alcoholism. TV can be addictive too. Often a person with an addictive personality is addicted to more than one thing. The family suffers as much as the addict. For the sake of your loved ones as well as yourself I suggest you get some help.

That's what America has been telling George W. Bush for years. Get some help for your various addictions. Cocaine, booze, Condoleeza Rice in bed, etc.
