McCain's speech thread

I have some thoughts, which I'll get to later.

No mention of Bush during the speech.

The talking heads, even after McCain's speech, are talking Palin. Maybe they should have reversed the ticket.

Last week Obama made 29 specific policy proposals. Tonight McCain made 3.

The stage is set. I give Obama a 60 percent chance of winning.

Addendum: Apparently Palin will be ducking the press throughout the campaign.

And this story may be part of the reason. The Police Officers Union in Alaska has filed an ethics complaint against her alleging that she improperly accessed her ex-brother-in-law's personnel file. The complaint states that "criminal penalties may apply."

Second addendum: The 911 video played at the convention tonight have some upset.

Third addendum: This Kos blogger notes the words which never got mentioned tonight (Besides George W. Bush in tandem): Climate Change, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Torture, Abortion.

Fourth addendum: Palin has obviously had a revolutionary effect on right wing talking heads everywhere. Obviously she's made them look inward in an introspective manner, confront their inner sexism, and evolve. Jon Stewart documents the remarkable transformations. It's all very touching really. Maybe next we'll see Rove, O'Reilly, and Morris out in the woods banging drums to call upon the Horned God in deference to the Goddess.

Comments:
My God!

Cindy McCain looked like a country music hooker who'd been on a three day binge of mint juleps.

What a condescending BITCH!

Why do people who are running for government say things like "...and we're the people who'll get government out of the way." How about just some honest governance.

She is the inbred disaster we have running this country.

That had to be the most uninteresting speech of all time.

There was nothing new in it.

I was nailed to a cross! Vote for me!

When I heard Jake Pickering's "All Sides Now," on the MUD' I thought he was being unkind, with the references to SNL's character "Pat", but when I heard a clip of Palin's speech, I was amazed, He was right! She does have a nasal whine. It wouldn't usually matter what a person's voice sounds like, but when you combine a voice like that with a completely patronizing and condescending tone, it becomes apparent who these people are.

i have been hearing the republicans ridiculing obam;s message of change..and what do they do?now they will fight for CHANGE..stealing is fashionable these days

I've known of Palin for a week now and I'm already sick of her. She is George Bush with lipstick. Arrogant narcissism wrapped in the flag. Please God, make her go away.

Excellent. The man is real but humble. He has character as well as humility. Obama could take a lesson there. Very rousing speech. Started slow but got going good when he told his POW story. He went through something Obama hasn't a clue about. Through that experience he dropped his identification with self and ego (*something Obama can't understand) and became a selfless servant of his country. He is dedicated to "Her" now until his last breath. How many of you can say that? The ending was very VERY powerful. Stand up for your country, indeed!

8:25AM:
Mus-ta had some of that oh so yummy Koolaid for breakfast with extra sugar.

That video is hilarious! If only the rest of the media was as good as the Daily Show at covering the stories and catching these people at their BS.

Okay, well, I guess later this morning we'll see what kind of bounce Palin gave McCain. Personally, I think Palin did an excellent job of rallying the base, but I don't think she will draw the Clinton votes McCain was hoping for - not with her position on abortion. Obama just released some ads on abortion and he's going to hit hard on the issue. And while I think there's a fascination with Palin I don't think it'll translate into independent votes. McCain has to do that himself.

I'd say he did a good job at that last night, except that independents, more than party faithful, like to hear specifics. His speech was very lean on them. The entire GOP convention was in denial over the economy, and what McCain offered for the economy was no different from Bush or any other Republican administration. People are hurting and none of the speeches I saw really acknowledged that.

That's been a running joke for a long time. The news media itself is very slow in this regard. Catching pols in their lies just doesn't seem to be a priority if they aren't actually candidates.

"Pat" is perfect, LOL!
Listening to "Pat" Palin upstage McSame right now at a campaign stop.
McSame looks soooooo befuddled.

Jobless rate at highest in 5 years.

http://money.cnn.com/2008/09/05/news/economy/jobs_august/index.htm?cnn=yes

Obama on the unemployment rate.

"Today’s jobs report is a reminder of what’s at stake in this election – John McCain showed last night that he is intent on continuing the economic policies that just this year have caused the American economy to lose 605,000 jobs. John McCain may believe that the fundamentals of our economy are ‘strong,’ but the working men and women I meet every day are working harder for less, the typical working age family’s income is down $2,000 since George Bush took office, and their purchasing power is as low as it’s been in a decade. John McCain’s answer is more of the same: $200 billion in tax cuts to big corporations and oil companies, and not one dime of tax relief to more than 100 million middle-class families. If I am President, I will cut taxes for 95% of all working families and provide an immediate $50 billion to struggling states so that they don’t have to cut back on health care and education and can rebuild roads and schools. That’s the change working families need right now."

but of course that is a wrong policy, the govt is not supposed to do nothing for the people...we are on our own

"She is George Bush with lipstick."

She has far less experience that GW, I heard Dan Quayle with a skirt.

The unemployment numbers at an all time high,

and Cindy McCain shows up wearing $300,000 worth of bling.

"Change is coming", appears to be McCain's new, ahem, adopted slogan.
He's probably right but not the way he intended.

I thought McCain was showing his better side during the speed, but I heard the Pacifica feed which was periodically interrupted with news that outside the convention hall the police were conducting sweeps and arresting protesters. Sorry to bring the N word into the discussion, but it had strong overtones of the Nazis to me. It's possible that McCain simply doesn't realize what the government is doing. Didn't hear the T word. Much of the stuff was childish, too. Wait till Palin gets to Washington, she'll shake 'em up. Fat chance of either her getting there or having any effect if she does. At one point he sounded like he was describing his teen-age daughter's "accomplishments" instead of speaking of a woman in her 40s. Nice speech John, but you are out of touch.

Please disregard my earlier comment. it was childish and insensitive.

I would say that John Stewart does what none of the main stream media seem willing to, that is point out the two face flip flops of the Republican spin machine.

There are several articles on the arrests as well a link to where you can "send an online letter" to the mayor, asking the city to drop charges on those unfairly arrested at:
